Doncaster RLFC 16-22 London Broncos

Sunday 21st January 2018

Keepmoat Stadium

Pre-season friendly

Attendance |  421

The Dons were narrowly beaten 22-16 in their opening pre-season game of 2018 by Betfred Championship side London Broncos at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Ryan Boyle, Richard Owen, Liam Harris and Brandan Wilkinson made their first appearances for the club, while winger Jack Sanderson also made his debut.

After a fairly even opening to the game, the Dons took the lead on 21 minutes. Prop forward Connor Scott took advantage of a gap in the London defence and powered his way over under pressure. Jack Miller added the conversion for 6-0.

That sparked London into life and they hit back just four minutes later, Sadiq Adebiyi was given too much space close to the line and he took advantage by squeezing between two defenders to go over. Jarrod Sammut added the two to level the scores at 6-6.

The Dons went back in front seven minutes before the interval, the ball was worked out to Sam Doherty on the left and the winger worked his way over the line in the corner giving the home side a 10-6 lead.

The Broncos had their second try of the game within a minute of the restart, as William Lovell took advantage of an Owen knock-on to go over. Sammut converted via the post to put London in front for the first time at 10-12.

They extended that lead just six minutes later when Sammut got a try which his performance deserved, weaving his way into space before touching down under the sticks. The stand-off converted the simple conversion for 10-18.

The game then became scrappy due to the slippery conditions at the Keepmoat Stadium, but that didn't stop London virtually wrapping the game up with 16 minutes to go. Prop forward Mark Ioane forced his way over the line for the visitors' fourth try of the afternoon.

Richard Horne's side grabbed a late consolation try as centre Liam Welham was in the right place to pick up a London knock on and reach over the line with his Dons team-mates queing up to finish. Miller converted to reduce the deficit to 16-22.
