PREVIEW | Spiers ready for Workington

18th August 2017

Russ Spiers is hoping the win against Workington earlier on in the season can act as motivation when the Dons make the trip up to Cumbria again this weekend.

Spiers scored the winning try the last time the two sides met and says the way they finished that game is something to build on.

“I have good memories of our game there earlier in the season, scoring the try that won it that day was one of the highlights of the season from a team point of view,” he said.

“I’m sure Workington will be looking at how we’ve performed against Barrow and Whitehaven in the past couple of games, we need to prepare right and go into it full of confidence.

“It’s going to be a tough game at the weekend, it’s always a challenge going up to Cumbria and we know we’ll have to be on the top our game.”

The Dons face their third Cumbrian opposition in a row this weekend and Spiers is under no illusions as to how tough the game will be.

“They’ve got a big pack but we’ve shown in the past few games what we’re capable of doing as we have a lot of good players in that middle unit,” he added.

“You have to look after yourself both physically and mentally as it can be draining travelling up there, once that’s out the way you know it’s time to kick on and put on a good display.

“It’s a big week as a couple of the teams around us have got to go up to Cumbria as well so it’s all about who deals with that pressure.”
