Charlie Martin was pleased with the Dons fighting spirit as they came from behind to beat Whitehaven 30-22 at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Martin’s try two minutes from time sealed the two points for Richard Horne’s side and the back-rower says the win can act as a turning point in their Super 8s campaign.

“The Cumbrian teams are the ones that we are looking to test ourselves against, we had a good performance last week but didn’t get the result and we’ve put that right,” he said.

“It’s always good to get over especially to seal the game like that, we worked hard for the win so it was nice to score.

“We need to start putting in 80 minute performances, I feel like we’re starting to peak at the right time as we head into the second part of the 8s.”

With four games remaining in the Super 8s, Martin feels that the Dons must look to build some momentum on the back of the Whitehaven win.

“Our middles were great again, we had a few changes but everyone played their part today and the lads are really happy,” he added.

“We had a good blend today of being tough physically but also playing an expansive style of rugby which helped us open Whitehaven up and cause problems for them.

“We’ve got to put a few wins together in a row so that we go into the play-offs with some momentum, every team is looking to do the same so we have to get some more points on the board.”
