PREVIEW: Whitehaven v Doncaster

7th May 2014

Doncaster make the long trip to Cumbria to take on Whitehaven at the Recreation Ground this Sunday, as Paul Cooke’s men search for their fourth Kingstone Press Championship win on the bounce.

New signing Tom Hodson could make his second debut for the club in the match, after re-joining the Dons and player coach Cooke has already confirmed he will be training with the squad this week and be in contention on Sunday.

Last time out the Dons recorded a narrow victory at the Keepmoat Stadium over fellow Cumbrian side Barrow Raiders with a last minute try from Dave Scott and conversion from Stewart Sanderson earning Doncaster a 30-28 victory.

Lee Waterman will also be looking to keep up his fine try scoring form, after a super first half hat-trick against the Raiders last Sunday.

Following the great form by the Dons in the league, they currently sit 2nd in the Championship and a victory against Whitehaven would see Doncaster stay in that spot for another week.

Whitehaven come into the match with mixed fortunes, so far this season they have yet to post a sequence of consecutive victories in the league and this is something the home side will strive for on Sunday.

The Cumbrian side have won three out of their last six league matches and last weekend recorded a super 10-30 away win at Batley Bulldogs.

The previous week however they were defeated at the Recreation Ground by North Wales Crusaders, who secured a convincing 0-34 win.

With the likes of former Wigan Warriors and Bradford Bulls winger Shaun Ainscough amongst their ranks, Whitehaven will not be an easy proposition, despite them sitting eight places below the Dons in the table in 8th.
