Workington Town 12-22 Doncaster RLFC

16th February 2014

The Dons didn't get off to a great start, inside six minutes, when Lewis Tierney's pin point kick was chased and pounced on by Elliot Miller to score the first try of the match.  This was followed up by a superb conversion by Kayle Connor from the touchline.

From the restart things went from bad to worse, Brett Phillips broke through the Dons defence, before great support play from the Workington attack allowed Tierney to score.  Connor once more added the extras, to give the hosts a 12-0 lead.

In the 25th minute the Dons got back into the match, Paul Cooke helped spread the ball wide and Stuart Sanderson crashed over in the corner to reduce the deficit to 12-4.

Doncaster continued to press the Workington line throughout the first half, with the home side holding out three sets of six on their own line to deny the Dons.

After the break Doncaster came out strongly and after some good play, Mark Castle went over inside 50 minutes.  Sanderson added the conversion to put the Dons just two points behind.

Three minutes later, continued pressure resulted in another Dons try, Dave Scott crashed over from close range to give Doncaster the lead for the first time in the match.  Sanderson added the extra's to give the Dons a 4 point lead.

With ten minutes to go, Doncaster wrapped up the victory with Stuart Sanderson crashing over before converting his try.

The Doncaster defence stayed solid, as Paul Cooke's men secured a well deserved and hard earned victory.
